I'm fine and neither are you

Honesty is the best policyexcept maybe when it comes to marriage in this brilliant novel about the high price of perfection from bestselling author Camille Pagán Wife Mother Breadwinner Penelope Ruiz Kar is doing it all and barely keeping it together Meanwhile her best friend Jenny Sweet appears to be sailing through life As close as the two women are Jenny’s passio. I read this book waiting in the cold for the bus to arrive on the bus in the metro before my class started while the teacher was giving a lecture during short breaks between classes walking from the metro to the bus on my five minute walk home taking the stairs to my apartment opening the door to my room jumping on my bed Basically I read it everywhere I could and now that I realize it there are so many opportunities in daily life to read a book And it happens oh so naturally This was a page turner for me My first book from this author and one I wasn t so sure about based on the average rating and the premise of what I believe has been done before over and over saving one s marriage But what makes this book different than the others are 1 the fact that the saving our marriage plan the characters put into motion is pushed forward by the death of the protagonist s dear friend 2 that both Penelope and Sanjay come up with an interesting list on what will take to save their marriage both must respect 3 the secrets unearthed by the plan and 4 the self discovery that occurs in Penelope especiallyEverything felt very realistic to me The death of the friend is a bit oddly written in the beginning but the the story progresses the it is discussed and I dare say understood even if such a death should perhaps never make sense Penelope s grieving takes time because she also has to deal with her precarious marriage She is overwhelmed but her dry humour and get things done kind of attitude keeps her afloat I was invested in her and wanted her to succeed I had no idea whether she actually could manage to save her and Sanjay s relationship but I sure enjoyed witnessing the multiple attempts It was entertaining and fun and yet uite serious as well Blog Youtube Twitter Instagram Google Bloglovin

I had the most enjoyable time reading my first Camille Pagan book It s witty smart and so insightfulIt s about a mom trying to do it and feeling like she s failing On top of that her best friend makes it all look easy For best friends their home lives are night and day different from each other Then tragedy strikes and the best friend s veneer is shattered There s absolutely nothing perfect underneathIn reaction Penelope the main character decides she and her husband should write a list of changes they want the other to make along with a commitment to total honesty I don t know about you but that proposal made me so nervous for this couple Laying it all out there is never easy And it wasn t for them either Their marriage is on the brink of collapseSuch a smart uestion this is 100% honesty necessary for a healthy happy marriage Or can we hold back the little niggles the day to day things that make us bite our tonguesOverall I m Fine and Neither Are You is a uick read with a nice balance of humor and thoughtfulness It s an authentic and refreshing book that challenges us to look beyond those sparkly veneers to see most of us are in the same boat when it comes to love marriage and family Some just happen to share openlyI received a complimentary copyMany of my reviews can also be found on instagram wwwinstagramcomtarheelreader
